Gallery Walk is a regular feature for two emerging Art Districts in Miami.
On the second Saturday of each month, art galleries, and other businesses in the Miami Design District and nearby Wynwood Art District, open their doors for a promotional activity showcasing work by an expanding mix of international and local artists. Featuring wine tasting, music and, on occasion, an opportunity to meet the artists who produce the work, the event is becoming a popular social activity.
I began taking part in Gallery Walk during Art Basel Miami Beach in December 2006 because I do the website for Jude Papaloko’s Jakmel Art Gallery in Wynwood. I wanted to see what the ‘buzz’ was all about. Papaloko is a multi-talented individual, known as the ‘king of vodou-pop.’ I felt his art and music reflected a ’spirit’ that other artists did not possess.
I soon realized other artists are ‘possessed’ by a ’spirit’ of their own.
Each time I went ‘walking,’ I discovered new – for me – art. I met creative people and their innovative promoters. And, I had some fun sipping wine and listening to a variety of musical styles.
This week – 5.12.07 - I decided to try to capture a little of the ’spirit’ of the art and artists, and share it with you.
This is a five minute ‘walk’ through five galleries – Art Fusion, Steve Martin Fine Art, European Art, Jakmel Art Gallery and Elite Editions Fine Art:
I will add a little about each gallery.
